Plus Size Weight Loss Journey

Hi My Beautiful Gems and Hello Gents!!

Thank you so much for stopping to visit my Blog. Today’s post will be about my Journey to Weight Loss, but more importantly, My Journey to a Better Lifestyle.

How I Started

As a young child from the tender age of three, I instinctively knew that exercise had no place in my world. How I came to learn this fact about myself stemmed from a Race that I lost while attending my Grandmother’s (Paternal)Nursery, Little Lambe’s Nursery. There was a particular race that I was apart of, the race had started and finished, however, I will still at the Starting Line, and had not moved an inch. I am sure that in my mind I was thinking, "It’s too hot for me to partake in this race and I had better things to do with my time". Luckily for me, my other grandmother (Maternal) Nana, was able to bribe me to run for some Candy.

So of course, I ran as fast as I could, however, I lost the race.
The newspaper happened to be out there, and to my dismay, I was placed on the front of the newspaper the very next day. Could you imagine losing a race and that being highlighted? I’m thankful that I was too young to have any emotional connection to this event.
Needless to say, my Non-Exercise Journey started there. I suffer from Asthma, a respiratory condition I have had my entire life. I’m sure that also played a huge part in my lack of athleticism.

My Weight Gain

As I got older I was always very shapely, but never overweight. I have always loved food and overindulged in sweets and snacks, however, I always seemed to manage to maintain my weight.

At the age of 18, I found out that I was expecting my first child, with my then-boyfriend which is now my husband. Although my pregnancy was fine and I maintained a normal weight, towards my third trimester, I took the normal routine glucose test, unfortunately for me, it came back that I had Gestational Diabetes

Although I had Gestational Diabetes, I was not on insulin, I was instructed to Diet Control. I started retaining a lot of fluids which caused me to pack on pounds, and by the time I delivered my baby I was 100 pounds heavier.

This was devastating to me because I had no idea how I would lose the weight.

Logically you think, I will work out, exercise, and change my diet, however, that requires you to change your LifeStyle. How could I do this if I don’t have the mindset for a lifestyle change? Well, needless to say, I started and stopped my weight loss too many times but to no avail. I always ended up back at square one.

How I Lost the Weight

Ten long years later, my husband and I decided to try for another baby to give our son a sibling. From the beginning of this pregnancy, I was immediately a High-Risk Pregnancy suffering from High Blood Pressure due to my weight, and also I was at risk for Gestational Diabetes with this Pregnancy. At 16 weeks pregnant I was diagnosed again with Gestational Diabetes and this time I was put on insulin while also being placed on High Blood Pressure Meds. This was a very trying time because I was at risk for my well-being and then fighting to ensure that I could not only carry my baby to term but do that as healthily and safely as possible.

I was able to discipline myself and stick to the plan that my doctor laid out for me and I had my beautiful baby at 37 weeks 5 days which is Full Term.

After my baby was born, I decided to Breast Feed because I read and heard so many great health benefits for not just baby, but mommy as well. In 8 short weeks, I lost 48 pounds.

This was the most weight I lost since being a mother.

I looked and felt beautiful. I was completely smitten with Life during this time.

Unfortunately, later on, this year which was the year 2019, I lost my grandmother two weeks before Christmas to Cancer. My grandmother (Maternal)and I were extremely close and my heart was completely shattered. Although there is no time capsule on when grief will come to an end my grief was cut short due to Covid-19. The entire world was and still is in Mourning due to this Pandemic and all the sickness and death it has inflicted upon so many in the world.

So my comfort was food, being quarantined in the house with so much on my mind I started to eat and eat and eat. Sadly, I gained back all the weight I had lost.

Starting Over

I wouldn’t say I got arrogant about my weight loss, because I never dedicated myself to Changing my Lifestyle to lose weight. I couldn’t take full credit for the weight that I had lost. I also realized that My lack of Athleticism, Asthma, love for sweets were all excuses, that I cushioned behind not wanting to live a healthier lifestyle.

So I have officially cut the Cord, NO MORE EXCUSES!!
